FED:Aust welcomes Bashir's arrest
Foreign Minister STEPHEN SMITH has praised the arrest of radical Indonesian cleric
ABU BAKAR BASHIR.
Indonesian police have told local media BASHIR has been arrested in West Java in connection
to possible terrorism-related offences.
The 72 year-old is best known as the co-founder and spiritual leader of Jemaah Islamiah
.. the terrorist group responsible for the 2002 Bali bombings that killed 202 people including
88 Australians.
Mr SMITH says the arrest shows Indonesia is committed to counter-terrorism.
