Vic: Vic govt makes $84.6 million commitment to aged care

The Victorian government will spend $84.6 million over four years to upgrade nursing
homes and develop a positive ageing strategy in regional Victoria.

Premier STEVE BRACKS says $79.5 million will be used to upgrade residential aged care
facilities in country Victoria.

He says the government is delivering on its election commitments to progressively re-build
older nursing homes and provide better care for frail seniors.

Mr BRACKS says the spending will be part of next Tuesday's Budget.

The government will also spend $5.1 million to develop a positive ageing strategy,
including projects encouraging older people to be more involved in community activities
and get fit.

Mr BRACKS has announced the new funding while officially opening the new $8.29 million
Joan Pinder Nursing Home in the central Victorian city of Bendigo.
